What is Achilles tendonitis?
Achilles tendonitis is a relatively common condition characterized by tissue damage and pain in the Achilles tendon.
The muscle group at the back of the lower leg is commonly called the calf. The calf comprises of 2 major muscles, one of which originates from above the knee joint (gastrocnemius), the other of which originates from below the knee joint (soleus). Both of these muscles insert into the heel bone via the Achilles tendon (figure 1).
During contraction of the calf, tension is placed through the Achilles tendon. When this tension is excessive due to too much repetition or high force, damage to the tendon occurs. Achilles tendonitis is a condition whereby there is damage to the tendon with subsequent degeneration and inflammation. This may occur traumatically due to a high force going through the tendon beyond what it can withstand or, more commonly, due to gradual wear and tear associated with overuse.
- Eat full-fat milk products from pasture-fed cows, preferably raw and/or fermented, such as raw milk, whole yogurt, kefir, cultured butter, whole raw cheeses and fresh and sour cream. (Imported cheeses that say "milk" or "fresh milk" on the label are raw.)
- Use animal fats, especially butter, liberally.
- Source as much organic food as possible.
- Avoid GMO foods which are especially found in soya, maize and cotton oil.
- Choose the whole food option.
- The rough unrefined option is always best.
- Choose the raw option in summer and the cooked option in winter.
- Eat as little refined food as possible especially wheat, sugar, fizzy drinks, tea, coffee, chocolates and processed meats.

According to study authors, this could affect the child's risk of developing diseases later in life.
To evaluate the potential effects of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on the reading skills, working memory, and behavior of schoolchildren underperforming in reading, the randomized controlled trial included 362 healthy children aged 7-9 years who were given either 600 mg algal DHA per day or a placebo for 16 weeks (1). The study results showed that the supplementation significantly improved the reading test results of children with the poorest reading skills and led to an additional 0.8 to 1.9 month gain in reading age when compared to the placebo group. In addition, increased DHA intake significantly improved children’s behavior, as rated by parents.
